People have been leaving the big blue cities, and in some cases smaller blue states, for years. When they do its usually because of governmental disfunction. The disfunction has at times led to dystopia. Its gone to a new level post George Floyd and during the pandemic, and even larger mid size cities that were once considered models like Seattle and Minneapolis are in serious decline.

The government induced collapse of the school system in New York caused Markowitz to leave. People in her class in the "Big Apple" are very loyal to the town but as I've said many times, mess with the kids and you've got a problem.

The flight to the "Free States" continues.

Sometimes. These people after having turned Virginia a blue shade of purple have just returned the Governorship, the Lt. Governorship and the Attorney General's office to the Republicans (it's the kids there too.) All attempts to turn Texas (outside of Austin) to a Democrat state have failed despite massive out of state influxes of people, mainly from Dem states, and the fact that only 41% of Texans are non Hispanic whites. For the first time there are more registered Republicans in Florida than Democrats.

Even somebody like Markowitz might think twice before pulling the lever for a Dem. The Miami area, once a Democratic stronghold in Florida is now competitive. That includes "The Jewish Riviera" where Markowitz is apparently pitching her tent.

So, I was going thru a drive-up business and there was a big sign demanding masks(I haven't worn one in months). I put the thing on and my breath was fogging up my glasses. Maybe I needed a tighter mask but I wondered is this thing really working?

you just experienced the proof glasses wearers experience all the time. Not only is the weave on almost all masks waaaay to large to filter out virus, the escaping air around the edges is considerable. Anything besides a surgical mask, and especially any cloth mask, is worthless and a surgical mask is far from perfect.

Frankly, if I saw a sign demanding a mask in an Arizona drive through I'd have to like their food a hell of a lot not to go somewhere else.

One other thing on voter migration. The Electoral College is critical. The more seats red states pick up, and they picked up some again this census, the worse it is for the Dems. Electorally speaking, Texas is solidly the second biggest state, Florida is growing that way as well. California lost an Electoral College vote for the first time ever this year. NY and Illinois have been losing electors for years. New York had 41 Electoral Votes in 1980 when it voted for Ronald Reagan. It had 29 last year 'nuff said. To show how significant the electoral change in Florida has been over the last 10 years the Mayor of Miami Francis X. Suarez is a Republican....never thought I'd see that.

Art, the way someone put it is that if Texas, an increasingly urban state, ever goes for the Democrats, then kiss the WH goodbye!

This makes sense, and explains why Texas Republicans are trying to stay ahead of this potential destiny by continuously rejiggering election laws.

Parties who feel that trends are working for them (such as the GOP in the 80's and 90's) do not resort to blatantly anti-democratic laws.

Rejiggering election laws will not keep Texas red. Rejiggering isn't going to deter the current upper and upper middle class immigrants from other states. During the last election the big city Mayors and urban County Judges rejiggered things in favor of the Dems, making it easier to ballot harvest and stuff those unattended drop boxes, and it didn't help much.

How much do you know about Texas election laws anyhow??? How different are they than other state election laws??? Don't believe everything you hear/read and half of what you see. Example, Texas allows two weeks of early voting, NY allows 10 days. The fact is Texas laws aren't that out of step with the rest of the country.

Hot flash...everybody Gerrymanders, every state "jiggers" laws in favor of the current political majority. California didn't legalize ballot harvesting to help the Republicans I guarantee. The Dems expected to flip the state house under the old Texas Election Laws in the last election, well no joy there. If the Latinos continue to tend "red" in Texas the Democrats won't take back this state in my grandchildren's day.

The fact is the Dems should be able to take this place back now based on their view of demographics and they haven't.

VA is, and for reasons I cannot remember, have some judges doing it

some will claim this district was done to keep this guy in place, or that gal in place, or so that this area will go D or R or whatever,


likely some shady undertable stuff will be done that we the voter will never know about,
