What is correct on Illinois Carry law?

Trying to find out what is the law on CCW in the State. Info I find on State law is confusing and I find that one part states that "Non-residents may transport a loaded concealed handgun in a vehicle if they are in possession of a valid CCW permit from their home state". I have to travel to Illinois from Texas as a family member is hospitalized there and want to do so and want to avoid any problems.

Can anyone help on what is correct and lawful?
    Thanks.

According to this web site you can plan on not carrying on your TX permit while in IL.

Like all the blue states nothing is clear. The kicker here is the little phrase _ in a vehicle _ once you step out of the car, you are toast.

        True.

Transport is another matter, firearm packed away and not easily accessed.

All depends on what the OP is looking for.

Texas does not have CCL reciprocity with Illinois. Therefore your Tx CCL is invalid in that state.

DPD has a quick and handy map showing which states have reciprocity with Texas and along with updates on reciprocity status.

Something to consider and look up.

In a lot of states no permit is required provided the gun is carried where you can not get to it readily. The gun and the ammo must be stored separtely.

So, an example would be putting the unloaded gun (I would hide it) in your trunk and the ammo/loaded mags in your glove compartment or console.

If worse comes to worse you can look up IL gun shops, call one of them and see if they can give you the states rules.

I was hoping for and not expecting an answer that would be in my favor. Thanks for the advice from ya'll....That'll work...run to my trunk, get weapon, back to the gun safe, fumble for keys, unlock safe, get ammo, reload, shout "Halt or I will defend myself"...Oh, yes..have preprinted card taped to my forehead giving my bodybag size.....Jeeeeze!

Sorry, we didn't create the blue states nor are they representative of this country. You still need to check though. As screwed up as IL is they may not even allow this. I think most cops would say OK but still...

First stop out of IL you can switch things back around.

"That'll work...run to my trunk, get weapon, back to the gun safe, fumble for keys, unlock safe, get ammo, reload, shout "Halt or I will defend myself"...Oh, yes..have preprinted card taped to my forehead giving my bodybag size.....Jeeeeze!"

Sounds like one of those old Ronco TV commercials where people can't seem to do anything at all right.

Gun safe in the trunk? You didn't mention chained and locked, encased in concrete, disassemled, torched, demilled, or welded shut. It's really no big deal to carry your gun in the trunk---I've done it for many years.

As far a having a loaded gun within reach while traveling thru IL it probably wouldn't do you much good since you may be outnumbered by the ones pointed at you.

The less time spent in this democrat chithole the better.
