To precis Lincoln, -Today's scholars are tomorrow's government ...

Which means they could be even more dangerous to our freedoms,
or what's left of them, than this bunch of worthless incompetents
presently occupying Pennsylvania Avenue. This present crop of kids
has not only been robbed of two vital years of education, but the
schooling they do receive by unionized teachers falls more into the
propaganda slot. The three Rs are no longer a requirement and the
grade of "F" has been deemed as both unfair and judgmental.
All that is required to graduate is that the student recognize that
America is a racist country that has caused untold suffering because
of it's past meddling in non caucasian countries.
That could finalize what Obama began and Biden continued, unless we
find a Saviour with a 'New Broom'. Or, Parents get up on their hind legs.

It's the parents who want grades made easy so their kids stay eligible for activities. You're fooling yourself if you believe all those people running for school board are doing it because the plan is to force their little darlings with the latest iPhone to finally buckle down in mathematics.

They like you just want to feel better about things, not see their kids actually have to hit the grindstone.

With a few exceptions, but mostly those college-prep kids grow up in elite liberal households and become elite liberals themselves and look down on Trumpers as uneducated simpletons. Obnoxious but true.

He knows all about us -- in his own mind. "They like you just want to feel better about things."

I wonder how he handles knowing I have one daughter with a Master's degree and one with a Doctorate?

How is that at all related to DT's rant?

And how long has it been since your last graduated from high school? 30 years? Things are different now.

We could play the game, how many degrees of what type each of our households has. But what's the point? And are you sure you'd come out on top?

Togor is so wrong and out of touch with reality. It is not the parents that have demanded teaching the CRT. It is not the parents that are begging for no failures and no F grades. The parents are 100% in favor of teaching Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.

It?s been a long time since my children went to high school but I have grandkids there right now. My grand daughter is in the 9th grade. She has a 4.0 grade point, is a member of the National Honor Society, she will graduate number one in her Jr. High class, she plays the violin, the guitar, and has a black belt in Taekwondo. Her younger brother is also a 4.0 student, plays a bugle, has a black belt, and can throw a full size football with a perfect spiral for 40 yards.

They pay attention at school and do their homework.

Over 30% of their classmates can?t write a sentence or read a paragraph out loud without mistakes. That reminds me of our glorious leader.

You cannot blame the failure of our education system on the parents.

I think it is a combination of both,

some parents suck, (I was graced with a decent set) but not all

some teachers suck, but not all,

and togor, no one really give a crap about how many degrees are in anyone's family, yours , vern's, RED's or mine,

Togor does. He was the one who started this crap about degrading southern states as "uneducated."

                      RED twisting as usual.

The "school board moms" are terrified of a non-existent public school curriculum, CRT. The very thought of it gives them bad feelings. Beyond that, so long as coursework and grades don't interfere with school activities, it's all good.

Many kids are being raised by their iPhones. It's so much less work that way.

you should really investigate that curriculum (CRT) that does not exist,

you may find, if you look, that folks have been teaching it for years

the sad part is that is not the straw that broke the camels back here in VA, it was the 'trans kid' that violated another in 2 schools before word got out about the hethatwantedtobeashe, and the Yankee told parents they had no say

Actually I did look into CRT and no way are public schools applying it. It's an analytical model for evaluating the race dynamics of a given contextual paradigm. For once your term "word salad" is on the money because that's exactly what it would be to the kids if they tried teaching it.

                          So no, bluff called.

But 100% agree that suburban phobias were targeted and amplified by the Va GOP in the last election cycle. Making people afraid and using that fear is pretty much mainstream conservatism these days. A long way down the road from Reagan's "Morning in America" eh?

                              Pfft!

Matthew Hawn, the Sullivan County teacher fired for lessons that delved into the role of race in American society, said he will bring his case to court.

Come read the tale of Matthew Hahn, who was fired for teaching a class that made a white school board uncomfortable. Not the students in his class mind you, but the board. Anyone who thinks cancelling is only on the left is not paying attention.

CRT has become a flashpoint for people who have turned it into shorthand for lessons or programs they say are un-American.

Or James Whitfield, principal at a white Texas district where CRT was not being taught, cut loose out of fear that something that was not in fact happening was somehow happening.
