Justice Stephen Breyer to retire from Supreme Court at the end of the current session. So far Kamala Harris and Whoopie Goldberg are front runners, with Whoopie appearing to be more qualified to meet Biden's requirements at this time.

If they are motivated the Republicans can block any nomination at least until after the midterm election. The Dems do not care who is confirmed as long as it is what Biden promised, a female, and black. A nominee does not have to be a lawyer, or even able to speak or read English,
Personally, I believe there is not a chance in Hell for the Republicans to gain control of either the House or the Senate. The the dam is broken and the flood will not stop. Too many conservatives have followed the piper down the paths of conspiracy and the anti vaccine crowds.Comment

I just know Biden, and a lot of other Dems would love to rid themselves of Harris
. I don't think they would inflict her on the country by putting her on the court but I could be wrong.
The newest Justice is stuck with all the menial jobs. In addition to always speaking last in arguments, the new Justice has cafeteria duty, goes for coffee, takes snack orders and when the judges are in closed session is the secretary. Breyer was the junior justice for 13 years and was court "go-fer" all of that time. Somehow I can't see Harris being very happy with being the court servant.

Of course. Unfortunately Republican presidents put justices on the court who either aren't as conservative as advertised or gradually become more liberal the longer they stay on (Alito and Thomas being notable exceptions.)
