A less political view.

It's not a "war on kids" for f--k's sake. Unless someone takes the view that school is for fun and games--sports and activities. Or God Forbid a generation gets raised that's able to follow instructions. I think that worries some of these reactionaries.

Part of the reason we outsourced ourmanufacturing is the quality of the semi-skilled labor force here keeps going down. To make things, people gotta see instructions as something other than a Communist Plot or The Man Keeping People Down. Gotta get on the right page as the rest of the production floor and do your job.

School board candidates running on mask anger is a prime example. What do they bring to the table besides that? Surely not an interest in the otherwise endless purgatory that is a typical school board meeting.

That's the way it is in our country! And for the teachers to take off work because they don't like a boards decision, only shows poor judgement and lack of maturity on the teachers part and hurts the kids! If the actions of the board are wrong, there are law full methods to take action against it.

Well they can't have elections every week and a board that is so bloody-minded in their decision-making as to be out of step with those who have to implement a policy is going to hear about it from other voices.

Most of these protest-style board members have NO IDEA what goes on in a school building. I have a kid in education who recently sent the cheery text "I got spit on 4 times yesterday". Nice huh?

Point being these narrow candidates may win a protest term but running off good staff over a temporary problem is bad for the kids too.

Speaking as an expert with long experience with the educational system?

Some districts pay a lot and are destinations. Some don't and have to work to keep good staff. Unclear which this is, but in general keeping the worker bees a little happy is good policy for any operation.

The board has some power but if they torpedo morale at a tough time that has consequences too.

One thing Covid has confirmed is that American schools are valued by large swaths of the public as a babysitting service. That's not explicitly political either....goes across the board.

Because that's what kids do these days when they don't get their effing way. Don't touch 'em either because dad's a lawyer or some crap like that.

I'm telling you, the phones are doing a lousy job of raising this generation coming up now.

And to be clear, if my kids were in school, and there was a mask rule, and they complained to me, I would tell them to suck it up, remind them why they are at school, and that I better not get a bad report.

The mask is to limit the chance they bring it home or pass it along. None of the class subjects care if they have as mask or not. And in East Asia, where kids regularly torch American kids on tests, masks are normal life. And it's only temporary until the bug is gone so deal with it and stop complaining.

That's the old school conservative attitude and boy do I miss it in this country. Everyone whines about their rights all the GD time, so it's impossible to get anything of consequence done.

Back to the OP,

Douglas County in Colorado leans GOP in voting and is above-average in terms of income. Seems to be red trending purple and that might for some heated politics.

If the board wants to fire the teachers and thinks they'll be easy to replace, I guess they can try.
