Knew a young fellow who shot himself, didn't see the behavioral change as significant because we were not close and did not have activities in common. Lawyer with an international practice which brought him satisfaction outside of professional achievement.

When it comes to suicides I think other countries have higher rates. I'd actually say that the American culture is super touchy-feely these days. Everyone is supposed to say what is bothering them and seek professional help! And we have pills for you if you feel bad. I'm from the "turn off the screen and get some fresh air, get back in shape, make some friends, maybe adopt a pet too" school of mental health but acknowledge this doesn't always work.
