More Americans are now killed by GUNS than car crashes

The eye-opening study found suicide of white men accounted for 49 per cent of the total gun deaths and murders of black men made up 18 per cent, according to the report seen by The Times.

More Americans are now killed by GUNS than car crashes as shootings become country?s leading cause of death by trauma for the first time

Surgeons at Westchester Medical Centre in New York state released research suggesting that more than 1.4million years of potential life are lost every year to gun crime

Car crashes were the greatest cause of death until deaths from guns skyrocketed between 2009 and 2018

The report, published in medical journal Trauma Surgery & Acute Care Open, found gun deaths rose on average by 0.72 per cent every year

Conversely, road accidents fell by 0.07 per cent each year that decade

Suicides using guns rose from 18,735 in 2009 to 24,432 in 2018 and gun murders rose from 11,493 to 13,958

Gun suicides are pretty efficient too.

Sorry to disagree, but I don't think a gun has ever committed suicide nor has a car ever committed a murder.

Ha ha or oh my, take your pick.

Drugs never overdose, yet the phrase "drug overdose" is commonly understood. The same word can be used as a noun or adjective.

          and the implication?

each (gun and car) are just tools,,, someone has to use them to do good or bad with them

Fentanyl doesn't really kill people either. Most people like to keep a jar on the mantle for looks.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

The kicker is the people who wail about suicides using firearms don't propose any money be spent on suicide research or prevention. Knew a young fellow who shot himself, didn't see the behavioral change as significant because we were not close and did not have activities in common. Lawyer with an international practice which brought him satisfaction outside of professional achievement.

Who wails about suicide by guns? I wish all the psychopathic, homicidal, suicidal manics would just shoot themselves first. I'm going to get a bumper sticker.

When it comes to suicides I think other countries have higher rates. I'd actually say that the American culture is super touchy-feely these days. Everyone is supposed to say what is bothering them and seek professional help! And we have pills for you if you feel bad. I'm from the "turn off the screen and get some fresh air, get back in shape, make some friends, maybe adopt a pet too" school of mental health but acknowledge this doesn't always work.
