Biden mandates 40 miles per gallon. Why noy 80 miles per gallon ? ...

I mean, if you're going to order auto manufacturers to make vehicles capable of
doing forty miles to each gallon of gas, then why not order them to make it eighty ?
It would be great for the environment and everyone's pocketbook. You're the
President so use your authority. Don't let the experts tell you it might not be
possible, remind them that it's an order. And, while you're in an ordering mood
why not order the oil companies to resume producing our own supplies ?

What law should Biden cite as giving him the authority to run the oil companies and make production decisions on their behalf?

No mistake, the petroleum business is in it to make money. That's our system.

Capitalism says, if you can beat 'em, join 'em. So everyone should buy oil stocks and enjoy the dividends and/or asset appreciation.

Dogtag, I was surfing Toyota's website looking at SUV's and found out them make a nice sedan for Cali only,
      burns hydrogen,
      70+ MPG IIRC,

you should buy one and let us know how it works,, just be careful with static electricity

I smoke cigars - Probably don't go too well with hydrogen. Kinda like the Hindenburg

Pelosi sure buys oil stocks to the tune of 4 million. She said "she could fix the oil crisis, but I don't want to"!

If someone believes Pelosi said that, then they're having a reality crisis.

maybe the same law that Obama used to fire the CEO of GM in 08 or 09? or the one that he used to tell Chrysler group (new) that they HAD to partner with Fiat in order to get the bailout loans?

We're bailing out the oil companies with prices this high? That's what the law did.

Energy companies and drug companies getting the highest possible price for their products is part of our capitalist system, is it not? You'd prefer socialism and price controls?

Ammo has been expensive most recently since early 2020, well before the election. Nobody blamed Trump for this, and people in many cases just shot less to make their ammo dollar last longer. Is ammo less important than gas?

I remember gas lines in the 1970s. There are no lines now, and most cars get much improved mileage. So, we could be so much worse off than we are, and eventually will be, given demand growth in China/India.

To own an EV I will have to upgrade to a 200 amp service. Whether I do the work myself or have a buddy do it, it's still time and money. In no hurry to own an EV--odd considering how I earn my living--but less keen on competing with more and more drivers in China and India. So probably just a matter of time.

We seem to be bailing out everyone with high prices. You don't have to look very far back to see when this started. A mental defective isn't capable of running the U.S. government. Then look at the bunch of losers he picked to help him run the government. Not even two years under Biden's leadership, and look where we are.

As in the line from "Full Metal Jacket", "we are in a world of sh*t".

So the reason gas prices are soaring is solely because the oil companies want to make more money. The reason groceries are going up in price is because the food companies want to make more money.

The fact that the USA is no longer petroleum independent matters not. No more drilling in Anwar is meaningless. The reason our military is getting cutbacks is because the world is less dangerous today.

Twist and turn, lie and burn?.
