So the Russians have a hypersonic missile.

And the progressives want us to end our reliance on Aircraft Carriers and ships that are supposedly archaic. Did you know we have more defense possibility than you have been led to believe?

Once again you start with a straw man exaggeration of your own making then argue against it.

Well case in point.....do CVNs factor at all in our response to the current proxy war with Russia? No they do not. SSBNs do, in the usual role of nuclear deterrence. But CVNs within striking distance of land-based air of a major power in a shooting war is not something we have tried in 77 years. Nothing is for certain except that CVNs are juicy targets. Oh sure there is a decent chance that our naval aviation would be up to the job of taking out an enemy fleet, but when it comes to his land-based forces, that is the same problem as it ever was.

        Added--

Here is a question--what is the highest N or S latitude at which the USN thinks it can sustain carrier flight operations? Google offers no help, but I imagine the answer is seasonal, with a necessary safety margin. I imagine ice on the decks would raise significant operational issues. Plus the fact that cold weather seas are often more affected by storms.

Oooh, found this. Korea. Those guys look cold!!

And this. January, 1987. Bering Sea.

So it happens but may also be fair to say that in a future with a ice-free Arctic Ocean, carrier ops may not play as big a role.

Well, there you have it -- aircraft carriers can't cure scrofula. or psoriasis, so they're useless.

On the other hand, nuclear ballistic missiles are what we should use in the current fracas.

The points made are simple enough. Try not exaggerating.

                Hey...forecasting.

                https://news.usni.org/2022/04/13/rus...abandoned-ship

The Russian Navy’s Black Sea flagship has suffered major damage and the crew has abandoned the ship, state media said late Tuesday in reports following Ukrainian claims of hitting the ship with a missile strike.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the mishap on RTS Moskva (121), a ship in the country’s Black Sea Fleet, according to state-run outlet TASS.

RKT, that is one of the worst ones yet (post #1). But a generality that has some truth. Stay safe (keep it to three words). All this destructive power that Ukraine has mustered is maybe the reason the USSR didn't want them to join NATO (has something to do with the Arctic. Ice,snow ect.). If we could just get a little Global Warming. Just being silly. If we could just get a little piece -vague Youong Frankenstein quote.

                      For RED:

Some gamers simmed the 1980's Soviet doctrine for attacking a US carrier.

                      Actually entertaining and educational.
