If the Germans had committed to a doctrine of long range bombing of Soviet rail lines in WW2, they could have won the battles on the Eastern front. Then and now, everything is dependent on rail. Trains as convoys, only constrained to a very narrow strip of land (the rail line) to get from A to B. Sure the line can be repaired, but in the middle of nowhere with whatever nearby peasants the Commissars could find? That takes time.

Shutting down the rail lines very effectively shut down German supply prior to the D-Day invasion. No reason it will not now be just as effective. After all, the russians are not marching into Ukraine. They are riding in whatever is rolling ... at least until a Ukrainian teacher or lawyer or officer worker turned soldier targets some of that rolling stock with a nice shoulder fired missile. That results in rusty metal on one end and a Ukraine on the other end who goes back to whatever they were doing before they lit the russians up. Sincerely. bruce
