As shabby as claiming “hanging chads” in Florida really gave the 2000 election to Gore? As I remember the Dems raised quite a stink about that. The NY Times and other news orgs labored mightily to prove the narrative but came up empty handed. It didn’t stop the Dems from flogging that canard for all it was worth.

I suspect that part of the issue that they want to address is the on-line interference in western countries by the Russian and Chinese governments. it is now pretty well understood that both of these governments have been planting articles and comments in western on-line media that are intended to influence our political systems by appealing to unsophisticated and vulnerable readers with phony stories. Sometimes this garbage is pretty obvious and can be identified by cyber security but not always.

He was wrong. Free speech is binary -- you either have it or you don't. If you don't hold it sacrosanct you don't respect it.
