Many Russian Majors are due to become Colonels ...

and if there are any Russian Colonels still alive, they may become Generals.
But seeing that those two high ranks are the Ukraine snipers' preferred targets,
the promotions might not be as welcome as they normally would.
Their wives at least will benefit from the increased pension.

After all the killings it would seem to me they would wise up and quit disclosing their ranks to the snipers as in different uniforms, saluting, and so forth.

Also, considering all that have been killed (39?) the Russians must do a lot of promoting. It would seem they have a lot of colonels.

Can't do that. It would be humiliating to not be saluted, and to dress
down and look like a Private. Be proud you Colonels and Generals and
if necessary leave the world in glory and on your shield.
Anyway, as the slave said to the General; "All Glory is Fleeting"
