If todays progressives were around in 1908 when Henry Ford created the Model T, their rallying cry would have been, Shoot The Horses! Make them hard to buy and impossible to maintain and our planet would be cleaner, and healthier! We would have our utopian world!
Shoot the horses!

The horses WERE turned into pet food. Probably they were shot to kick off that process?
So what point are you trying to make? You're arguing that internal combustion engines must be the last word in personal transportation? Remember, even those smokey autos meant an improvement in urban air quality over horse manure and flies.
From a manufacturing and maintenance perspective, there is one hell of a lot to like in an all-electric, direct-drive power train versus a geared, internal-combustion unit. -
Did read a blast from the past about 'the automobile will eliminate all the filth etc etc'.
A truck with two 100/125 gallon tanks, weighing 1,500 lbs can pull a 80K trailer from Sacramento to Salt Lake, Dallas to Denver? How far could a 1500 lb battery pack go? Anyone know what the grams/ton/mile for RR is? Then there is the daily consumption of highway fuel in BTU. What is the electric equivalent in MW? Right now I see EV as trendy commuter gadgets but not ready for prime time. Biden thinks destroy the present economy and a new one will appear, just like deficit spending. New money just gets printed.Comment

You purposely missed the point again. The point being that new technologies do not work magic. It takes decades to be fruitful. You and your cronies insist on throwing millions of people into starvation and death by throwing all other energy types into the garbage heap. And yes, horses, mules, and oxen, were around for decades while cars went through the wringer and became efficient.
My grand father never owned a car. We did not have electric lights until I was 6 years old (we did have gas lights) but did not have running water until I was10.

RED that's just angry bombast.
You propose a "what if" that has no connection to reality to make some point that only you can see.
The only person starving anyone these days is Putin (by effing up Black Sea grain exports to run up prices), and he's a darling of the right.Comment

Q1: Which EU leader is sticking with Putin?
A1: Orban, in Hungary
Q2: Where is CPAC being held this year, and who is the keynote speaker?
You can see where I'm going with this.
Orban is the closest thing to Putin within reach right now for right wingers looking to sport a certain brand of bigoted ethno-nationalism.
And don't make me remind you about Tucker.
Back to EVs. Capitalism says it's the future for personal transportation. If you're saying Democrats do too then that makes Democrats the party of capitalism, and I guess the GOP is now the party of Luddites in the mountain hollers. At least according to you.Comment

CPAP does not represent me nor do they represent the hard working Americans that are being brutalized by the stupid left. Yes, the EV is a new technology that will eventually replace much of our transportation but it will not be tomorrow! You and your ilk are enslaving the common American citizen and replacing them with illegal non citizens. And Yes, you will have to remind me about Tucker. I have not seen or heard him or Hannity in four years. They, like the CPAC do not represent me nor any of my friends. Apparently they are somewhat like BLM, a organization that represents a very small portion of blacks.Last edited by RED; 05-26-2022, 03:25.Comment

They may not represent you, just as they don't represent me, but they demonstrate the truth of what I'm saying--
A faction on the right is into Putin and his world view.
That being the case, why are you wasting people's time yammering on about the dangers of the left when the right has this huge problem with a pro-Putin faction? Same Putin who threatens to nuke the US if things go south for him.
Don't quibble about the stick in the left's eye, worry about the log in the eye of the right.Comment

The difference being, going from mules and horses was a vast improvement except for plowing the garden. Going from fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles has a lot of catching up to do with no new battery technology in sight.
If you have time to watch it, a real world test of using an electric pickup like a pickup will be used.

It is another made up propaganda lie. Hillary and the Dems paid for and colluded with the Russians to overturn the 2016 election and not the Republicans. Every bad thing that has happened in the past 6 years is because of the totally corrupt Democrat party illegal efforts using the FBI, DSA, IRS, and other government agencies for political actions.
Come on and tell us again the lies about all the collusion by the Republicans, tell us again about Trump peeing on the bed, tell us again about the Alfa bank ties to Trump.

The electric car is not the be all and end all and will not end pollution. A lot of people choose to forget that to power an electric car, you need electricity from the grid, In some places, the grid power is derived from water, nuclear or perhaps solar or wind and in those cases there will be a reduction in pollution. In other cases, the grid is powered from coal generators and the added demand will require the use of a lot more coal. In addition, however, unless every country in the world goes off coal, the world wide effects will be minimal. I read a few years ago that China has about 300 new coal driven plants under construction. There are of course, many other problems associated with electric cars including the disposal of the batteries, the long recharging time etc.
Having said all that, I would argue that the greatest argument for eliminating or minimizing the use of petroleum is that oil is the principal feedstock for many, many chemical procedures including the production of plastics and that oil is a finite product and is really much to valuable to burn. Future generations will curse our generation for having wasted this most valuable commodityComment
