If it hadn't been on the teleprompter Slo Joe wouldn't have known he was suppose to grieve. To hell with the grieving parents, his little appearance was to promote gun control.

Biden sees this as a tragedy.
Other politicians see the occasional pile of dead schoolkids as the "price of freedom" and scurry to change the subject to mask mandates or a stolen election.
We all know nothing will change as a result of this, but Sleepy Joe's reaction makes more sense to the public then your own reptilian take on it. But he's President and you're not, so probably he's just better at this sort of thing.Comment

I have to chime in on this.
One of my best friends, unfortunately now deceased was in the Border Patrol at a station near Uvalde. He married a rancher's daughter from the area. After he retired they bought a place in the little town of Leaky, sort of a suburb of Uvalde. His son joined the "Patrol" and is now a supervisor in San Antonio. The BORTAC Agent who "ended the threat" is a son of personal friends of theirs and according to my bud's widow an exemplary young man.
My wife and I used to go there every year for a long weekend. They killed 4 or 5 deer a year two or three of which they donated to friends so I'd collect my deer and he and I would skin it, quarter it and sit on the porch and butcher it while our wives hung out in the kitchen. Sometimes we'd go down to the Frio and enjoy the Garner state park
Now I'm annoyed by some of the comments on ethnicity, People down there are fond of saying that they didn't cross the border, the border crossed them. Meaning they were here at the time of the revolution and when the US annexed Texas. For the most part they are the salt of the earth. They are also every bit as upset about Biden's border policies as anyone on this forum. Parents pack heat when their kids play because of the treat posed from gangs of trespassing illegals. The area is becoming more and more Republican as the folks realize their ethics and values are more in line with rural East Texans than Democrats. The congressional district is represented by a Republican (Tony Gonzalez.) The Mayor of Uvalde is a Democrat and the County Judge (the Mayor of the County in Texas) is a Republican (I may have those reversed.) I will guarantee the kids at that school are overwhelmingly United States Citizens with some permanent resident aliens and a few illegals thrown in.
My family came to Texas (illegally) in 1834, they just crossed a different river, the Sabine, to get here. There are Latinos in Uvalde whose families have been there since the early 1700s.
Oh, Robert Francis O'Rourke really showed his a$$ in that press conference, I doubt he'll be getting the Uvalde County vote.Last edited by Art; 05-25-2022, 06:38.Comment

My question is . . . .
Where-?n-hell did an 18-year-old kid . . . .a high school dropout . . . .get the money ($2,000+) to buy two ?ar-15 type? semi-auto rifles, and many, many rounds of ammo (at about $1.00 per round) to fund this tragedy?
Outside of dealing in drugs, I don?t think he could have the funds for this! (Maybe used a credit card??)Comment

I talked to my daughter today on her way to a middle school where she's the counselor. She said she's had a lot of crying kids in her office since this happened so it does reach out. I asked if she was going to Uvalde and she said she didn't know but she'd probably be asked. Her job isn't a bowl of cherries right now and she's better than 350 miles from the carnage in city center Houston.Last edited by Art; 05-26-2022, 05:22.Comment

I know teachers. These hit them hard, because whether anyone here wants to agree or not, teaching a roomful of kids these days is damned hard work.
And now some of the older MF students can bring guns in while teachers are trying to do their jobs?
And society is powerless to do anything about it?
That last bit is what makes them mad.
Who can blame them?Comment

If you're saying that it will take $40B to protect schools, regardless of whether we're helping Ukraine fight Putin or not,
then that's saying America is pretty effed up.
And the way life is, sometimes it isn't an either-or. Grownups (including grownup countries) have to be able to do more than one thing at a time.
So what it really sounds like is you're looking for an excuse to stop making Putin's life hard, and cynically using the shooting as an opportunity.Comment

Russia was in the Western camp but you democrat war lovers have
driven her into the Chinese camp. Russia is resource rich in wood, coal,
gas and oil which Europe will now have to do without.
Ukraine has always been Russian just as Taiwan has always been Chinese.
If they wish to rebel, fine, but don't risk a nuke war on their behalf as
neither are of any strategic benefit to us.Comment

DT, Russia was never in the Western camp. At best, love/hate, with hate steadily winning out the longer Putin stays in power. He has to deflect from internal problems from his corruption somehow, so he blames the West for everything wrong in Russia.
And some suckers in the West believe him.
Back to the shooting.
Reading that police milled around for a good hour outside the school. That would be the "golden hour" for those that know anything about trauma medicine. Sickening to think how many of those folks might have bled out while the cops called a meeting outside.
More proof, if one is cynically minded, that the people with the power, the politicians and the police, aren't as interested in protecting ordinary folks as they claim to be.
Don't underestimate the power of that anger. If it's decided that guns are the problem, not the solution, by enough of the public, then things could change quick.Comment

I don't understand, but how is their leader to blame for their misery?Comment
