The Russians have worshipped a low silhouette for generations. To get it, they build their tanks for small men, eliminate one crew member by using an automatic loader, and mount the trunnions low in the turret.

As a result,

1. They don't have the muscle power to do things like break track, pull power packs, load ammo and so on -- it takes two Russian crews to do what one American crew can do.
2. They can't load and fire as fast as American tanks.
3. The ammunition is loaded for the convenience of the automatic loader -- which makes it easy to blow up a Russian tank.
4. Russian tank gunners frequently lose their left arms, which the automatic loader rips off.
5. They can't depress their main guns -- which means they can't fight from defilade.

Whenever Russian tanks have gone up against American tanks (as in the Arab-Israeli wars) the Russian tanks get the snot kicked out of them. And the Russians still haven't got the message.
