Conservatives only care about the unborn

With Roe v. Wade consigned to the history books, Republican lawmakers from Ohio to South Dakota to Mississippi have been talking about the next stage for the pro-life movement: building a public policy agenda that supports pregnant women and strengthens the family, which is the cornerstone of a healthy society.

As recently as seven years ago, The Wall Street Journal editorial board would attack proposals like Sen. Marco Rubio?s child tax credit expansion as ?social engineering.? But by 2017, an expansion of the credit was included in President Donald Trump?s tax cuts, and last year 49 Republican senators voted on an amendment offered by Rubio and Utah Sen. Mike Lee that would have increased the credit to $4,200 for children under six for families that met an income requirement.

There is also a movement afoot to make it easier to adopt. When my oldest daughter and son-in-law were trying to adopt, they found it would cost $50,000 to $100,000!

If adoptive parents had that kind of money, they should put it in trust for their adopted children, not give it to lawyers and bureaucrats! Personally
I would favor a law that the government pay them to adopt -- and keep the money in trust for the children.

Sounds like an expensive social program. No go with this GOP leadership.

The title hits the nail on the head.

And remember if you are a member of the GOP donor class in a banning state you can go to a blue state to see that the necessary health care is delivered.

They banned everyone else's abortions but not the ones they need.

Don't say it won't happen because of course it will. If abortions are a little more inconvenient, so what? The tax cuts make it more than worth it.

Plus we've covered the adoption laws in this country. They're a scam to bilk desperate parents who come away empty-handed when the birth parents call "backsies"

Only the babies with issues are unwanted, and there may well be more of those. Lots of poor women in red states without access to prenatal health care, because that's bad for taxpayers you know.

If they are SOOO STRONG, let them put a bill to Install as another Amendment to the Constitution, then they have seven years to get it ratified.

The fact is there are more prospective parents looking for children to adopt than there are children to be adopted. That's why prospective parents go to Russia, China and other countries.

We have perverted the system so lawyers can make money. We ought to make adoption free and as I said, provide a nest egg for the newly adopted child. That would be a hell of a lot cheaper than shuffling the kid through one foster home after another.

The prospective parents want the freedom to chose where they are adopting from.

To the point, they go overseas (though not to Russia anymore) because once you get the kid out of the country, it's yours. Here that is never true. You're at the mercy of a sentimental judge who can and will grant birth parents rights because this supposedly is the right thing to do.

Yeah sure.... telling the adoptive parents they're not REAL parents as a matter of law is brilliant. I bet Texas leads the way in this.

Dunno.... Johnson is pretty effing dumb. It helps a little that he's originally from Minnesota. Would so love to deport him but MN sure as heck don't want him back. Frankly can't think of a state that would take him.

Was he part of the replacement elector scheme, or did he ask for a retroactive pardon (admission of guilt)?

He denied being in the replacement elector scheme only to put himself in the middle of it 3 days later. He's that special kind of stupid that confuses right and wrong one day to the next.

I think they would rather adopt in the US, just my opinion!
