    Florida, who needs it

Invasive giant African land snails that can eat building plaster and stucco, consume hundreds of varieties of plants and carry diseases that affect humans have been detected once again in Florida, where officials said Thursday work has begun to eradicate the pests. The snails, which grow as long as 8 inches (20 centimeters) and have a distinctive whirled, brown mottled shell, were confirmed by state agriculture officials in New Port Richey, Florida, on June 23. The location in Pasco County is just north of the Tampa Bay area on the Gulf coast.

    Even worse than Texas.

Death by Boa Constrictor for those caught in the illegal plant or wildlife trade.

What gets me is a lot of these invasive creatures are still allowed to be imported.

If they can live and thrive in Florida they can do the same in some of the other warm climate states.

Allowed doesn't hold a lot of clout these days. The snails (being dumb as they are) don't know any better. We should have a talk with them. The migrants already know the talk. Have ranked it and continue to come across. They have lawyers, the snails don't. Yup, there is a law that says we have to let the Levy Break. I know, we all drown, but that's the law put forth by his most pious. Real live people would get upset a little you'd think. Doesn't seem to be the case. I mean, how long can you hear, The border is Broken? At this point it's what you tell the crying baby. About a million times. I guess it helps the baby.
There is a storm coming Senora.
        Yes, I know.
Maybe we can fill up Lake Mead.

Florida has insects and other creatures that haven't even been identified yet! Not to mention high humidity, high water table (about 2 foot down), hurricanes, tornados, a lots of senior citizens and a lot of rain.

I know. I live 30 miles from Florida. We have most of that too but the worse part of FL as far as high water table and the creatures is in the central area down to Southern FL where they get mild or no winters.

Last year some parts got freezing weather (global warming) that had never experienced it before. Iguanas were falling from trees due to being stunned by the cold.

However, a lot of what has become invasive in FL could also live in the swamps of Louisiana, parts of TX, Southern CA and who knows where? Some of these new brought in creatures can tolerate a little drought and cold and live in many other states as well, and do.

So it's not just FL that's a "catch all" for things that shouldn't be brought in to the U.S.

The humidity, weather and storms have been here as long as mankind knows--that's not going to change though and not just a FL thing either.

As far as senior citizens go, they choose to move there from all the "better" states. You can't blame FL for that.

Yep, and how invasive they soon become.

Delicious! Actually, in Singapore we used to teach a class where we skinned and cooked a python.

Did you know that pythons have legs?

Never looked, but I bet they're not as nice as Betty Grable's were.

                            Nah -- they're vestigial, but they're there.

A python was caught and killed a week or 2 ago. It broke the records for FL pythons @ 18', 215# and was loaded with 122 eggs. Cutting open the stomach revealed that the snakes last meal was white tail deer.

It took 4 men over 20 minutes to get control of the snake in order to kill it.

A lot of the males that are caught are kept alive, fitted with a transmitter and released. The males provide the whereabouts the females are and makes finding/killing them a little easier.

After the snakes eat and kill all the wildlife in the Everglades they will start spreading into residential areas to feed on cats, dogs and farm animals.
