The Racism disease has spread to Opera ...

This Black Soprano is pissed because a White singer sang a black role.
Trouble is, there are more black roles than there are black sopranos.
Should Butterfly be sung only by a Japanese. ? Should Turandot be sung
only by a Chinese ? Should Mimi be sung only by a soprano who has
consumption ? You can take realism way too far.
Actually this soprano may have done herself a favor by dropping out.
Verona is a voice destroyer, it's an open air theater and has ruined
    many a female singer.

I think that she forgets that opera singers are also actors and that by definition, actors are supposed to be able to play any role using the appropriate makeup. In many cases, when the operas were written, there would not have been any singers who could play non-white roles and it was understood that white singers would manage the role with appropriate costumes and makeup. That was reality and not contempt or racist.

As a contrast, when my wife and I were in Sydney Australia we went to see La Boheme, an opera set in Paris. The lead was sung by a Chinese tenor. No problems with that except that I didn't like his voice much

I truly hate people who choose to be offended by something that is not intended to be offensive. In this case, I suspect that having used the stage to make a political rather than musical statement, she has just kissed a large part of her career goodbye. I doubt that anyone in Europe will hire her now
