American Woman driver has never used the handbrake ...

Seems to be a purely American habit judging from what I have
observed as a passenger in friends' cars. Relying solely on the
"Park" position overlooks that it's just a relatively small pin in
the transmission which if on a slope can fail due to the car's
weight. I've noticed also that drivers don't "Curb" their wheels
when parking on a slope. I've seen many a video of drivers
chasing their runaway cars in hilly San Francisco. Funny to watch
but I doubt the car owner got a laugh out of it.
I make sure my car stays where I left it.

Neither of our vehicles have a parking brake. The ABS system holds the car when in Park, which is four wheels instead of two. Only my old keeper jeep has a parking brake.

I had a rental earlier in the year, which was Mini Cooper Countryman (did not care for it at all, and I had two Cooper S's for 8 yrs and loved them)
anyhoo, it had an electric parking brake, just flipped a switch,

      odd

When I was a little fellow, us kids used to visit an old, retired trainman who lived in a boarding house down the street. He only had half a right foot -- and he would show it to us.

He was a brakeman and had set the brakes on a boxcar. He had just climbed down when the car started to roll. He stuck his foot under the wheel to stop it.

You sure about brake line pressure holding the car in park, powered off? That sure sounds like an active system and not what I would expect.
