As a counter-argument, if the elected officials come and go at a high rate, that shifts power to the unelected people in the various government agencies.
There is value in having some elected officials who have a long time in service, who understand how the government works, what it can and cannot do--how to tell the practical from the impractical. As true in your home town as it is for the Federal Government.
But for sure there is also sticking around way past the "best by" date (see Feinstein, Dianne, for a good example). But best to trust the voters in my opinion.Last edited by togor; 08-03-2022, 07:53.Comment

WE need term limits. And we need a Constitutional amendment making it a crime to violate the Constitution.Comment

Ah...the irony."The first gun that was fired at Fort Sumter sounded the death-knell of slavery. They who fired it were the greatest practical abolitionists this nation has produced." ~BG D. UllmanComment

You can't legislate away the need for norms, that unwritten recognition of what is and isn't acceptable behavior. You can change certain rules, but a society where every last behavior is codified into criminal codes is a totalitarian nightmare.
Now I agree with you that some ambiguity in the Electoral College rules has been identified and needs to be tightened up.
But surely you agree that the #1 issue on 1/6/21 was the unwillingness of the losing candidate and his coterie of sycophants to respect norms.
In short, I'm guessing your respect for Pence is higher now than for the other guy.Comment
