Apart from me, is anybody here old enough to remember...

those Saturday excursions to the local Picture Palace to watch
Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon attempting to rescue the beautiful
Jean Rogers from the lusting hands of Ming the Merciless ?
At that point the episode ended - a Cliffhanger ended every episode
so you had to come back the following Saturday to see if he succeeded.
Of course he did, but you weren't supposed to know that.
Buck Rogers, Spy Smasher, G. Men. Superman, Captain Marvel
(best serial from Republic) - All the favorites week after week.
You'd go with your girl hoping to get seats in the back row.
Wonderful Times. I remember them well.

I remember seeing them on late night or early morning TV.

1930's Sci-Fi sets did catch the imagination of this kid.

Sometimes we got to stay up late to watch a monster movie on TV, with some 7-Up, maybe a bag of Fritos.

    Simple pleasures, right?

Agree with those above who say DT might be older but then I got to thinking about his childhood and being in England.

Perhaps these shows were shown overseas long after they were discontinued here.

One of my co-workers from a previous job was a German. She said TV's in Germany were B&W long after America had gone to color and most of the programing was of old U.S. sitcoms and movies.

When you hear Soul Train coming on...you hit the streets.

Yep, couldn't wait until Sat.. In my town it cost .09 cent to get in movie if you were under 12. Man that's been a few years ago. looking forward to my 85th. Still going strong, changed my oil on my car yesterday. Knees aren't worth a damn.. One replaced and now the other one is crying out...LOL

I did the same till I got my Ford F-150 4x4 off-road. With the skid plate and the hard to reach filter I just let someone else do it. I think 85-$100 is an outrage but they check all fluid levels including the differentials and grease all the points too. I don't have a lift--just jacks so not worth it to me. Also, this truck has turbo's which can't tolerate dirty engine oil for very long.

If you have a typical FWD car with no grease nipples and no diff (transaxle) you can find places that charge less (like WalMart).

Being older and retired the miles come slower so the visits to the oil change places doesn't happen often.

Food for thought. Save your joints.

I remember Saturday matinees with all those movies. And in Peru in the early '50s, the big thing was Zorro every Saturday.

Zorro destroyed a lot of curtains with his signature "Z".

I suppose he still walks among us. I see his "Z's" all over the Russian tanks.

He comes swinging it, one hand on the chandelier and one on his sword.

Zorro in the serial Zorro's black whip was the beautiful Linda Stirling.
                              Zorro never looked better
