China, to quote the Bard is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
They could invade, but it would be extremely costly as Taiwan is
extremely well armed and their armed forces are proficient.
Also, China's economy is in dire straits and further strains on it
would prove very unpopular with a people already tired and no doubt
upset over the prolonged lockdowns. Another Tiananmen (SP) Square
would not be welcome. Things will calm down and it could be that
a possible accommodation might be made whereby Taiwan retains
it's autonomous status while admitting the Mainland sovereignty.
It beats getting into a Ukraine type boondoggle which would produce
only losers.

The Chinese have to import a lot of food, and basically nobody in that country has COVID immunity.

Also, those PLA soldiers are only children, in most cases. And in China, kids are supposed to provide for their parents. So if Xi gets China into a shooting war, his problems multiply.

One thing Trump had a knack for was sniffing out what kinds of problems the other guy had, and putting pressure on those. A lot of people, they're so worried about their own problems, that they forget the other guy has problems too, maybe worse than yours.
