Why do we want to go to the Moon again ? ...

We went there back in 69 and found nobody there. In fact there was
host of nothings there; no air, no water, no soil, absolutely nothing
of value, nothing but craters, rocks and dust. So why go back there ?
We proved we could do it, an admirable feat, but that was fifty years
ago. Nothing's changed up there. It's still a worthless lump of rock
and it's never going to be anything other than that.
Why not turn our endeavors to a place a little further away but far
more inviting than the Moon. Mars. If nothing else it would be a
great place to have fun in your Dune Buggy.

    Why go to Mars?

Consider this -- imagine a spaceship set up to take a human crew to Mars and back. Imagine all the fuel, oxygen, food and so on needed for the crew.

Now imagine stripping all that stuff out and replacing it with automated systems. We'd learn a lot more with an unmanned mission like that. And it would be cheaper, too.

        Question about the Moon's gravity.

The ocean's tides are affected by the pull of the Moon's (and the Sun's) gravitational force. Water is very heavy. Now, if the Moon's gravity can have that much affect on such a heavy object why doesn't it affect our weight? Shouldn't we weigh less during a full Moon? During a full Moon there would be no obstruction between it and us.

Stupid question? Probably so but I couldn't find any answers on line. That's when I discovered the Sun's gravity affected the tides as well.

Maybe that's why during a full Moon I keep floating up to the ceiling.
          It's most annoying.

I think someone wants to see exactly what China is putting on the moon.
