The Queen has died

Everyone probably knows this by now, just saying it must be nice to have had a leader in your country that was so liked/loved the world over.

My earliest memory of her was seeing her in a precession along a main street in Toronto in 1951 when she was still Princess Elizabeth. I lived about 200 yards from the route and we all went out to see her. I was a very young kid but I recall two things: the great excitement in the city and the fact that to control the crowds, there were soldiers lined up every couple of yards along the route. They were wearing WWII battledress khakis and I recall that the brass buckles glinted in the sun. I have seen her and Charles several times in tawa but the closest that I got was at the 1740's historic French Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia. By happenstance we were there when she came to visit. We were about 6 feet from her when she wandered around to greet the crowd

I don't think that most people think of her in these words but Canada is actually a monarchy and she was the Queen of Canada. Oddly its only in the last few years that I have heard her identified that way.

I was sad to hear it, but Death at 96 is not a tragedy. Apparently a lovely lady. Even most of the Laborites couldn't help but love her, and and shed a respectful tear.

I think she started to die right after her husband Phillip died.

She DID seem to go down hill at that point. Of course she was what 95 or so too? Her kids sure weren't a driving force to want to stay alive.

I've always heard her referred to as the Queen of England but she ruled over 15 countries, monarchy's or provinces so I suppose everything under the British rule.
