Where does Governor Newsom get the authority ...

to order something as monumental as no more gasoline powered cars after 2035,
no matter that there probably won't be enough green energy to charge them ?
He won't be in Office when that kicks in so it could be cancelled I suppose.
Why doesn't he go whole hog and mandate something more useful like nuclear fusion
by January 2023 ? Of course that might not be Green enough for him otherwise he
could well do that. He might consider ordering Anti-Gravity. Now that would be useful.

I remember reading about that. The article stated they voted on it. Who "they" are wasn't very clear but I'm sure there were few or no Republicans involved. They voted that no more gas powered cars would be SOLD in CA. They won't disappear overnight. A bunch of gas stations might though.

A lot can change by then including the shape of CA with enough quakes and mudslides. The way CA is being destroyed by left wing politics gas powered cars may be the last thing on their minds by 2035.

If California slid off into the ocean, who would care? The sea creatures would be harmed tho.

Been a couple articles echoing your position. One is what happens if nobody falls for the BS and people refuse to buy the stoopid things. Also the minor consideration the grid was officially declared stressed Labor Day w/e so what happens when these morons get their wet dream in the flesh? These guys are so detached from reality it's either comical or frightening. One article pointed out there was 90s mandate for 5% of vehicles sold to be non-polluting by 2001. Trouble was even though GM offered a little PoS for over 100k no one took the bait so the regulation was circular filed.

Do bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, ski's, sleds, shoes and bare feet qualify for non-polluting vehicles?

Maybe California will be re-named Bedrock.
