Ukraine says over 1,000 people tortured, killed in Russia-occupied areas

The Ukraine parliament?s human rights commissioner said more than 1,000 people had been tortured and killed in Russian-occupied areas of Kharkiv region, Interfax news agency said.

Dmytro Lubinets also said that in the coming days Ukrainian authorities would release the exact number of people found at a mass burial site in the city of Izium, the agency added.

Its actually hard to believe that the Russians would be stupid enough to do something like that in this day and age. There are no secrets anymore and atrocities like that are usually uncovered. It may be that the Russian commanders can't control their troops or perhaps they really don't think that there will be any consequences or perhaps they are even doing it to terrorize and control the population. In any case, at the least, it will harden the Ukrainian troops who may just stop taking prisoners.
