    Getting Serious In Iran

The down-side of policing religious morality with truncheons is on display.

Need to check with some friends from Iran; I believe no religion has a majority. Just more Moslems than anyone else.

    But this can escalate quickly.

The military dictatorship wraps itself in the Shiite sect. But yes Zoros and maybe the odd Sufi, Buddhist or Christian. Maaaybe some Sunnis on the Afghan border barely scratching out an existence (and hence in no shape to make trouble for anyone?) A few really brave Jews?

If they really want to topple the regime then the answer is a prolonged general strike first to soften up the regime. Mass protests by unarmed people against a security force willing to use deadly force is a bad strategy. But if everything stops working all at once, well that is not something that can be fixed with bullets.

In 1979 they demolished the house of the Bab, the shrine of the Baha'i faith. It seems they have occasional large protests but they quickly subside.

Just relocate to Venezuela. Once all the losers there get situated "somewhere else", it might be a good fixer upper.

I am reminded that large public protests were one of the factors that caused the Shaw of Iran to flee. The memory of that regime change may well cause the current regime to suppress this uprising with extreme force if the protests continue for any length of time

                Oh yeah for sure.

That's why I think a general strike is a better move. It's one thing to have the manpower to murder unarmed protesters, and quite another to keep transportation up and running, for example. Shut down the country and eventually the security troops get hungry too.

As I have the OP on ignore, I don't know what all the content of the posts are. Since this is the Guntalk forum, does it have anything to do with all of the IHC garands that went to Iran or something similar? Otherwise not sure why this is in the GUNTALK forum??

Tractor guns. It's actually an interesting story. Seems like the old en bloc clips get a lot of reuse over there too. They'll use the Great Satan's technology and manufactured goods happily enough.

The story of the M1 Garand in Iran highlights a tale of interwoven politics that spans decades and is still being seen today.More than just the story of a service rifle in the Middle East, North Africa, (MENA)/Central Asia region, it crosses political and historical intrigue throughout.Mixed in is the history of American foreign military aid propping up the Shah’s regime, the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the ensuing Iran-Iraq War, and then the dissemination of the rifle into nearby Iraq and Afghanistan, possibly even Syria as some recent examples from various rebel groups there show. From the period of 1963 to 1967, the U.S Military established a Foreign Military Sales mission to Iran.
