The Iranian-made drone being used to carry out deadly strikes in Ukraine

How Putin has turned to Shahed-136 'kamikaze' weapons which loiter in the air before slamming into their targets

Officials accused Russia of using Iranian-made Shahed-136 'suicide' drones
The drones are 'loitering munitions' meaning they hover above targets for hours

Ukrainian soldiers have said while the drones can devastate targets, they are vulnerable to small arms fire, and have coined the drone the 'flying lawnmower'

About like the air race during WWI. Each side started and developed planes, tactics, etc. Same w/ drones. Will make a significant impact on ground operations. Very likely will render less necessary the role of ground support aircraft. Sincerely. bruce.

Why do they call them "kamakazi or suicide drones? There is no human aboard aka Japanese WW2 kamakazis.

There's no human in the White House, either, but people pretend there is.

Drones normally drop their load or take pictures then are guided back. These are apparently one way drones that carry a charge.

Don't understand the purpose of being a "kamakazi" or self destructing drone unless they carry a larger charge/bomb and don't have battery or fuel enough to return. Perhaps they are afraid they can be tracked back to the sender. These would be like portable mortars. Once launched the sender could move on to another area and not have to wait for the drone to return?

In short, they are called kamakazi because just like the manned aircraft the plane is part of the bomb. They blow themselves up upon impact along with whatever bomb they are carrying. The drone doesn't live through the experience.
