Trudeau only has a minority government and is holding on through a deal with the New Democratic Party (a socialist party). With their support he can win a vote of no-confidence in the House of Commons. By convention, if he loses such a vote, he must go to the Governor General and ask her to dissolve Parliament and call a general election. As part of the deal, Trudeau has promised to bring in some programs that the NDP want, such as a Dental Care Plan. So far, he has not really lived up to the deal and at some point, the NDP are going to realize that they sold their soul for nothing and have become irrelevant. My sense is that day will come sooner rather than later. If there is a general election, the bets are that the Conservative Party will win and there will be a major shift in policy on such things as law and order and firearms. If the deal with the NDP holds, then we will have about two more years of Trudeau and his incompetence.
