Buy a $1,000 gold ring and walk down the street to the nearest shop that buys gold and see what you can get for it.

Go to a jewelry store and pay $400--$600 for a tungsten or titanium wedding band, go home and look them up on ebay or even WalMarts on-line store and find them for <$50.

Companies like De beers control the prices on diamonds, which apparently are not rare.
