    Time to go to lithium?

My 5 year old group 27, 12v, 100 amp, lead/acid trolling motor batteries are going to need replacing before spring. IIRC, I paid right at $200 plus taxes for 2 lead/acid batteries. Today they are going for around $140/ea.

But everybody keeps telling me go lithium! So I priced them and Bass Pro has them on sale for the bargain price of $799ea. And BTW there is the charger a old fashioned charger if used might ruin $1,598 pair of batteries, so there goes another $400.

And so it goes. Nuclear energy is the largest source of clean power in the United States. It generates nearly 800 billion kilowatt hours of electricity each year and produces more than half of the nation?s emissions-free electricity. This avoids more than 470 million metric tons of carbon each year, which is the equivalent of removing 100 million cars off of the road. We know now how to get rid of the toxic waste left over. Instead of wasting resources on a partial fixes instead of seeking more and better uses of nuclear devises including fusion. Lithium will sometime in the future be used up and does not add any electricity to the system, it is simply a storage device.

If your figures are correct, you can buy 5 + pairs of lead-acid batteries, and still use your old charger. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Or get rid of the boat and fish off the pier.

That's how I do it -- of course I mostly fish in my own catfish-stocked pond or the fishing hole on my creek.
