New York police nab repeat shoplifter who had at least 12 prior arrests

People like this raise the cost of products for every one!

Can someone please tell me how many arrests does it take to keep a person off the streets?

Yonkers police said a loss prevention manager pointed out the suspect to police

Yonkers police said Friday marked Rosario?s 13th overall arrest.

Yonkers police on Friday arrested a man who was allegedly filmed a few days prior loading up a bag full of stolen items from a Marshall's department store.

They do indeed raise costs for the rest of us. And our current policy of turning them loose again and again is unacceptable.

when I was in the Gro Biz, 7 yrs ago,
VA would let a shoplifter get off if they were a first timer but going to a diversion program,
      we called it shoplifting class,

however, VA also had (may still have) a 3 strikes policy,

so after you get convicted of 2 misdemeanors, #3 is an instant and automatic felony, meaning the stuff hit the fan, or the stuff getz real for you,

popped a few that got a felony and time,

My thinking is, hang a thief when he is young and he will not steal when he is old.

What would Gaddafi have done? Chop off his hands.

A little harsh for the shoplifter but a strong, strong message for any others thinking of it.

The Saudis, I believe, still do that. In the desert, where water is at a premium, a man eats with one hand and wipes his butt with the other. If you cut off one of his hands . . .

When I first started working, one of my colleagues was a civil engineer from the middle east. He was a very pleasant gentleman whom I liked a great deal. To my surprise he told me that he thought that the cutting of a hand was an appropriate response to theft and was in fact familiar with the concept.

I grew up in a fairly rough area of Toronto where the father of one of my close friends was a bootlegger; my neighbor was a working prostitute; my neighbor a few doors up the street went to jail for a scam; a friend up the street managed to accidently kill someone; the neighborhood kids ran a burglar ring and one of my close friends had spent half of his childhood in reform school for theft. I had a bit of trouble accepting that the cutting off of hands was appropriate since everyone that I knew would be one-handed.

As an unrelated aside, my colleague told me that he had worked on a port project in Saudi Arabia and had lost three construction workers to sharks. We were working at Toronto International Airport (now Pearson Airport) and I worried about my staff hitting an airplane (one guy actually did that) but sharks ???
