    Cooking with Gas

A couple of weeks ago the Biden Administration Consumer Product Safety Administration proposed a new regulation banning all appliances burning gas; furnaces, stoves, dryers ect. At least 40% of all U.S. homes use gas for heating, cooking ect. and a lot more are plumbed for gas giving owners the option to use it. The "justification" for this reg. being the suspected health hazards from emissions from the burning of gas and the effect on global temperature. Some cities, the usual suspects, Berkeley Ca. and New York City, among others have already banned new gas hookups. Some "Red" states have passed "Preemption laws prohibiting local ordinances targeting gas appliances.

Today the Biden Administration, in the words of Harry Truman, "felt the heat and saw the light." They said, "just fooling we really aren't coming after your gas stove." Well they do want to come after your gas stove, just like they really do want $5.00 a gallon gas. They just know the political consequences when they get caught, but they will try to slip these regs in every chance they get.

In a nutshell this is my problem with these people. They want to micro-manage every aspect of your life; including but not limited to what car you drive, what light bulb you can buy and what energy source you cook with. It's all about control.

Such a ban would devastate U.S. Over 40 percent of the homes in America have gas piped to them. Then think about the many, many industrial factories use gas to produce their products? Just like the green progressives and the carbon fuel, they are jousting with windmills. Common sense tells us that there will be a scientific fix to all this. But then how would they control us.

    You are right!

They have dredged up the old mantra, "It's for the cheldruns!!!!!!!!!!!"

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is considering a federal ban on gas stoves in response to a growing body of scientific research has linked them to a variety of health problems.

They really do want to come after our guns too.

Gas cooking is more efficient than electricity. I don't think any restaurant could stay in business w/o gas cooking.

Gas heating is much more efficient than electricity and drastically needed in Northern climates where the winters are more severe.

That being said, my preference is electricity. Where I live the winters are short and mild usually. I don't like a flame in the house when cooking nor in a closed, out of site closet where my water heater lives.

What I learned thru life was gas fumes from un-vented space heaters and cooking stoves is what you breath and though the gas is in a burned stage it can not possibly be good to breath. Both propane and nat gas contain substances other than the gas too and can include small amounts of benzene. Most all of us have been exposed to either the gas heaters or the stoves at some point of our lives. Gas fumes also decompose foam rubber in chair and couch cushions too. Don't ask for a link proving it because it is an observation and not just my words. Others have commented on it as well. That being the case, it represents what you are breathing in your home.

Having lost several members of my family to cancer, my father and grandfather to lung cancer, I took notice of this early in life.

Vented cooking with an exhaust going to the outside should be fine and space heaters I think are banned, at least I haven't seen any of them for many years.

OK, this is just my preference to elec over gas and why. I do NOT agree with biden's proposal. Cleaning up the air and emissions is fine and dandy but I think we are doing enough considering the most populated countries are doing nothing. Their pollution comes here as well--the earth rotates and we have the winds.

We have pretty much cleaned up OUR smog filled cities. Time for China, India, Russia and many others to start doing something.

Oil and Gas are GOP dominated industries. They donate. That's what is going on.
The new house had gas right to corner of the building but wasn't hooked up. Had a plumber friend run the piping for a stove, water heater and two heaters. Just need to relocate the first heater to the back bedroom. Wasn't cheap but now I can cook and heat if the electricity goes off; have an inverter to run the instantaneous water heater.
I understand Allen's concern, but I like gas. We don't have hardwood up here so I'll pass on the wood burner.

Obviously safety precautions should be observed and one of them is venting your cook top, (this goes for electric as well) which is the case in our house. From what I've seen houses with builder installed gas appliances are properly vented. One problem comes in when after market stuff like putting your microwave over your cook top and cutting off the vent is done. Frankly any health risk would be solved by proper venting.

As barrel creek says, one of the advantages of gas is having it available when the electricity goes out. We've always been able to cook when the power was gone due to a storm.
