Baldwin has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in New Mexico. That is a fourth degree felony punishable with 18 months max in jail. Baldwin will likely get probation and no jail time based on his lack of a criminal background. He will be back into making more movies before the dust settles.

I think it was intentional. Baldwin's been in enough movies firing weapons that he knows the procedure. In every movie when you see the shooter and the target in the camera frame, when the gun fires it's always pointed to the side of the target. Even a blank can cause damage.

Interestingly, in most situations American law is much harsher than Canadian Law. This may be an exception. I suspect that in Canada, he would have been charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Death and where the act involved a firearm, the minimum penalty is 4 years and the maximum penalty is life in prison

I've read conflicting reports. Some say 18 months max. Some say 5 years min.

I can see gun related crimes being more severe in Canada since Canada is more anti-gun with gun ownership being more restrictive.

Regardless of our laws though, they mean nothing if they aren't enforced. It all boils down to a single judge usually. Don't forget, judges are lawyers per se and nothing is more corrupt than a lawyer or politician (who often have law degrees).
