Think of how many were killed in WW11 simply because they weren't given a rifle, ammo or were shot by their own if they tried to retreat.

It seems like not a whole lot has changed. I've read where many of them are hungry and given inferior weapons. Some of these are kids. Some are released felons from prisons. Not to say these people couldn't be good soldiers but they aren't trained.

Poot'n no doubt is glad to get rid of some of these. He cleaned his prisons out. Many to most won't be coming back and are probably assigned the most risky, suicidal task.

I do not buy the casualty claims of either side.

Yes, both sides are keeping a very tight control over information, no embedded journalists, no satellite feeds, daily briefings, no spokesmen.
Ernest Kin supposedly said regarding the Navy's PR/press relationship plans for WWII "Don't tell 'em anything. When it's over, tell them who won."

Nor do I. But if this is even remotely true, they've taken more casualties in a year than we took in 9 years in Viet Nam,

Doubtless the russian causalities are very heavy. The Ukranians have lost men, but nowhere at all on the scale of what has been inflicted on the russian forces. Expect that both sides have men in combat who are not so well trained and not so well prepared for the rigors of frontline life. Regardless, the Ukranians are standing up to everything the russians throw at them, all without caving in and giving up. Good for them. Sincerely. bruce.
