I am not seeing much here about the Memphis police brutality!

What you are seeing here is cruelty and unprofessional behavior that is rampant across the US. The underpaid, undertrained, over worked local county and city LEOs are what you get when you hand a idiot a badge.

Too many cops in too many locations are employed not to enforce laws but are employed to generate money for the corrupt local government.

Their rules are there are only three kinds of people in the US? Cops, bad guys, and bad guys that have not been caught? yet.

The hardest thing I had to do in my job was to keep my drivers license. I paid thousands of dollars for bogus tickets issued by highwaymen. I paid Curry, MO $600 because they changed the ticket to a noisy muffler instead of a ticket for driving 23mph in a 20mph school zone. I paid over $2,000 for a ticket for a bogus fail to yield. The fine was $248, my insurance went up $600/year for 3 years.

BTW. I drove 1.5 MILLION miles with zero accidents that was my fault.

I am following Sherlock Holmes dictum of avoiding theorizing until I have data. I have minimal contact with the LEOs of my town, last time I spoke to any of them was when they had a "Coffee with a Cop" event at a local eatery. Often the only time I see one is if I am out and about-on my bicycle when the schools are letting out, my town is quite rigorous about having a strong police presence at that time. Here in NJ new recruits from municipal departments and the State Police usually go through the State Police Academy at Sea Girt, 6 months, residential, rigorous, military environment, PT, etc. One nearby town-Plainsboro, NJ-developed a reputation as quick to ticket, haven't heard about that in a while.
LEOs-like teachers-are on the front line dealing with our social pathologies-drug use, illegitimacy and welfare living, a large underclass of parasites and sponges with a powerful
sense of entitlement. In nearby Princeton, they deal with arrogant, overeducated snobs who look down their noses at anyone without a string of degrees.

I would suggest that the incident in Memphis has a lot to do with the culture in that police force. If the incident had involved a single officer or even two of them, it could have been a case of a rogue cop but when five of them took part, it really has to have been the common and acceptable approach in that police force. I suspect that there will now be a lot of stories that come out of similar behavior in the recent past and that a lot of police officers will be resigning or retiring. Of course, there will be a lot of huge lawsuits as well.

Been articles online about the militarization of policing and the shift away from foot patrol get to know your turf style.

Early '70s in Baltimore the cruisers got A/C. Patrols would ride around with the windows rolled up. May as well have had paper bags over their heads.

Thugs are thugs. Doesn't matter if they are day laborers running a shovel or professors running a doctoral program. In this case, the thugs wore uniforms. They will be held accountable for their criminal conduct. That is not a problem. Problem is that the overwhelming vast majority of police officers are a credit to their departments and the citizens whom they serve. These men and women will be judged guilty by association by those individuals who are driven by their own prejudice. Sincerely. bruce.
