Intervening in other people's wars has often been a bad idea for this country. That includes the recent past.
However...in this case Russian expansionism which has been unopposed by the west in any serious way in places like Ossetia and the annexation of The Crimea has reached a point where I believe it must be opposed. Putin has made no secret of his intentions to recreate the old Russian Empire and until the Russo-Ukrainian War, do it in a pretty low cost way. If he succeeds in The Ukraine and that should lead him to try to annex the Baltic States which are part of NATO you have a choice of effectively dismantling NATO or a full scale all out war in Europe that could devolve into WW III. Since one of the principles of land warfare is you never march on Moscow it could be a horror show beyond belief even without nuclear weapons. Right now the war is only costing us weapons and ammunition. and I'm ok with that. That stuff can be replaced.
At the current stage of the war the Russians seem to be reduced to the strategy of throwing more and more bodies at the Ukrainians until the Ukes run out of bullets. Like I said above I have no real problem with providing the weapons and ammo.
I understand The Ukraine is a corrupt state, that we support because its the best option available under the circumstances. i also understand the point of view that its not our fight and that too often we've been sucked into fights that aren't in our best interest. I just believe its necessary right now.

By the way. dryheat has a reasonable point...within reason, I will admit I took strong exception to being called a coward once on the old version of these forums

Russia, China, Iran, and NK have been a problem for some time now with their threats increasing with their growth. The West is NOT going to do anything but watch. Time has proven this. Now they have invaded yet another territory trying to regain all that was lost in the break-up of the USSR. China is watching and intends to follow a similar path.
This is one way we can fight back and keep a lid on the aggressors. As said before, I just don't want us to overextend ourselves, crippling our own defenses. The Ukrainians, it is reported, are using ammo quicker than the rest of the world can supply it. Like Art said, the Russians are using vast numbers of bodies as weapons, which consume ammo. Think how much worse this situation would or will be if China is fought.
So far we are aiding a country to defend themselves against invaders. We are not fighting Russia. They (the Russian troops) can go home anytime they wish.
Compare this to helping Kuwait where we did everything while they watched.Last edited by Allen; 03-04-2023, 08:00.Comment

It is a real bill that the new Governor has apparently got the votes to get passed.

Not intervening has also been a bad idea -- for example, France and Germany not intervening to stop Hitler from gobbling up Czechoslovakia. Or not intervening to stop the Japanese from gobbling up China.
And that, by definition, means it IS our fight -- and we should be thankful someone else is doing the fighting for us.

Yes, you are correct now. It has all potential for becoming quite a Charlie Foxtrot. It is a real bill that the new Governor has apparently got the votes to get passed.

Arkansas schools are not the worst, not by a long, long shot. Believe whatever y'all want from the "news". I know more than a few teachers. All I know, and yes that is a select bunch, are hard working folks who try to teach young'ens how to think as well as the subject matter.

The teachers are limited to what books the (liberal woke) county/state school board has chosen. It's not all the teacher's fault.Arkansas schools are not the worst, not by a long, long shot. Every teacher I know says, "It's the parents' fault." Maybe so -- but that means the teachers can never succeed. And taking money for a job you know you cannot do is called fraud.Comment

Allen, That is the fault of the parents and citizenry of that school district. Also, teachers have considerable ability to teach with materials other than what they have in front of them.
Vern, All I know to say in response is, that you know the wrong teachers.
Y'all I am not arguing any more, about what you already have firmly entrenched in your minds, or rather choose to believe.
I have no stomach for arguing on the 'net, nor the time. Life is far too short for it.
A good day to you all.

I invite you to cite a school district that provides an education to ALL its students at a level that justifies the amount of money we pour into it.Comment
