Here in NJ it has been acknowledged that Newark and Princeton spend the same amount per pupil but with vastly differing results.
It was true in the 1960s that a lot of men went into teaching to dodge the Draft, and Education has long been one of the easiest college majors.
And too many parents are using the schools as a daycare center.

But the bottom line is, the schools are not working. And they are not working in the most critical districts. Call me a hard nose, but I say we either need to come up with something that works or quit pouring money into a failed system.

        Texas is listening.

Texas officials on Wednesday announced a state takeover of Houston's nearly 200,000-student public school district, the eighth-largest in the country, acting on years of threats and angering Democrats...

My best high school friend was a heck of a athlete. In high school he could tee up a foot ball on the 50 yard line and kick field goals. His eye hand coronation was incredible and he won ribbons throwing shot puts. In college he is in the Ark. College Hall of Fame for pitching back to back no hit Ark. collegiate baseball.

He graduated and became a high school coach and a Driving teacher. He drove busses and worked hard in this under paid job for 20 years. Then he retired but went to work as a advisor fir the school administration for another 20 years and retired.

His first retirement was sitting there gathering interest for 20 years. Today, his school retirement paycheck is a mere $11,000/mo plus $2,000 SS.

BTW, his under paid wife followed his path. After 20 years she retired and got a job in the school administration. So this terribly underpaid school teacher and her underpaid husband are trying to exist on the under retirement of only $40,000/mo.

Any school "reform" must start with tackling the 40 % rate of illegitimacy.

When we went to school it was a 12 year ordeal. Now the government is all but forcing K4 and K5 admitting that the public school systems now cannot teach in 14 years what it didn't use to teach in 12 years.

Funny thing -- the letters to the editor section in the newspapers are full of comments by teachers and retired teachers telling us how bad our new education initiative is. They tell us what we SHOULDN'T do but apparently have no clue about what we SHOULD do, other than raise teachers' salaries.
