This is what is spoiling my old age

California is "seriously" talking about reparations for the descendants of slaves.

The Golden State is trying to create a path for reparations for the harms of slavery — and may be creating a model for more governments to use.

I hope they are using their money.
With a little scientific work I'm sure they can track down the descendants of Neandrethals and sue the Homo Sapiens (that's us) for crimes against humanity.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

Reparations should be paid to people who can prove they bare descendants of slaves by people proven to be descendants of slave owners. There was no compensation of slave owners after the Civil War, as late as the Hampton Roads Conference on February 3, 1865 Lincoln offered some compromises on slavery, gradual emancipation and abolition, some form of compensation.
My mother said my paternal grandmother told her she lost an uncle or a great uncle-or a couple of them-at Gettysburg. Union troops. My family has paid its share.

I thought this country paid with thousands of Union lives for freeing the slaves?

As I have said before, every man who can prove his great-grandfather was a slave should get a check for $10 million. And he should endorse it over to a man who can prove his great-grandfather served in the Union Army.

I had two great-grandfathers in the Union Army.

Slavery was obviously a very bad situation for ALL races but it all ended in this country nearly 200 years ago, no one now is enslaved and can go back "home" if they don't like it here and what was done here in ancient times.

Since it was all so long ago and no one living today shed one drop of sweat as a result of it I say if reparations are paid it should be in payments over a long period of time as well.

Based upon a lottery from an old MAD magazine I say everyone actually entitled to reparations should receive $1 million dollars each paid out in installments of $1 a year for a million years.

But in order to qualify those entitled should reimburse the taxpayers first for all the welfare, food stamps, free housing, free health insurance, low/no interest loans and countless other benefits they have received for being purposely poor, disabled, discriminated against, sometimes forcing them to rebel and destroy their own cities and homes.

200 years ago, the black African tribes sold their rival tribes to white slave traders. So sue the tribes in Africa!

That is true. In fact a few years ago, a college professor told his class American Blacks were inferior -- they were the weak ones who were defeated by the stronger tribes. The professor was a Black African.

$1 a year for a million years. Since you're only 1% then that would be just a penny. You will need to mail in postage for that first.

And he is right. Why are there different races? Evolution produced people and animals that were the best survivors for the conditions they were in. For Example, Eskimos evolved and managed to live in very cold places that the natives living on the equator could not survive.

The false pretense that there are no difference between men and women, Eskimos and equatorial natives, Asian races and Caucasian europeans is simply silly.

Look at sports for example. What percentage of NBA teams are black, and how many are Asians? When was the last white Heavyweight champion (Rocky Marciano)? If boxing is non racist, why has a Japanese boxer never been champion?

Were blacks the only slaves in America before 1860?

No, my ancestors were Indentured Servants that came to America and all my paternal relatives last name was Freeman.

Quote: Indentured servants were mostly young men between the ages of 15 and 25 years, who signed contracts in England to work in the colonies without wages. Up to 75 percent of all the individuals who came off the transatlantic ships in the 17th century were indentured servants.

Why do I need to pay people that cannot prove any connection with slaves or cannot prove their ancestors came to US before 1865.

                      Does Reconstruction ring a bell?

We are white because during the Ice Ages we lived too far north. We were bundled up in furs and didn't get enough sunshine to make Vitamin D. People with lighter skin were able to produce more Vitamin D on the few square inches of exposed skin, and so had a survival advantage.

I think there might be a little more to it than that.

Not much -- survival of the fittest works pretty well.

According to Jared Diamond, it was the cold weather that made certain groups smart. He says the people in New Guinea could be just as smart as us but never had the need. More or less.
