              What I read was sketchy (as always) but the 18,000 cows were mostly in holding pens waiting to be milked and couldn't run from fire. Many others were burned but still alive.

              18K represents a huge farm, there may have been 50K or more total there. Anyway, that = a lot of cow crap and they think what caused the explosion and fires is the manure got hot and lit off. There was mention of a big vac truck or apparatus that vacuums up the crap. There would have to be a means to store the crap, etc.. So this much "stuff" generated heat along with the methane gas already present so "boom".
