Are electric cars really better than carbon powered vehicles?

It seems the greenies hide the minus side of electric vehicles. One of the problems is hardly mentioned and that is weight. An all electric vehicle weighs a lot more than similar carbon powered cars. Some of those batteries reach almost 3,000 pounds. The excessive weight is a problem for tires, shock absorbers, brakes, and the suspension system. The increase in electrics in the UK is already being blamed for the shocking amount of potholes in their highways.

Another problem is what do you do with a worn out EV with its dead battery? Almost 97% of lead acid batteries in the U.S. are recycled. The number of lithium based batteries recycled is under 10%.

Nothing mandated by the government is thought out first.

They might be heavy but the Tesla I rode in was like an oldtime 60's Cadillac.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

Prepare yourself for the latest "Jetsons" transportation. Yes, a flying all electric car! Pray you are not below one when the 'juice' runs out!

one of our newer members here just bought a Tesla,

several of us have asked him to do a cost analysis ,

as in how much it costs to charge etc, and see how that shakes out

I think GM had the best idea with the Chevrolet Volt. It had a battery powered motor and when the batteries ran down a small gasoline engine would auto-start and charge the batteries as you drove. Much like how a diesel train works. It had a battery only range of about 40 miles but for many of us that would be enough. Estimated MPG with the batteries and gas used for charging was about 65-70.

Until things change drastically I would never venture beyond my own neighborhood with an electric car with no back up. I'm not saying there isn't one but I'm not aware of a single charging station in my entire county.

Toyota has made some battery breakthrough utilizing batt tech from pacemaker batteries. On a side note, at my previous place of employment, we were issued card keys that let us open gates and doors to restricted areas and even to log on to computers. When I retired I had the same card after 10+ years of issurence. These cards had some type of battery and battery life was never a subject.

Anyway, whatever comes, the gov't will tax it to where it will be no cheaper than gasoline.

For certain uses, certain areas. Urban areas, where the distances are fairly short. Out in the country, the Great Plains...?
