You mean like SS vs Welfare? SS is always on the chopping block table especially during budget talks even though taxpayers were forced to pay into it their whole life while welfare has an unlimited reserve---never mentioned---never threatened---always there.Comment

I may have told you -- my first tour in Viet Nam, I had a monkey. I learned many things from that monkey. You could take a slice of apple, give him a bite, then pretend to eat it yourself of put it in your pocket. That was okay with him -- it was your apple.
But if you let him put his hands on it, you'd play hell getting it back!
And that's what's wrong with Social Security -- we let the monkey get his hands on our apple.Comment

Unfortunately "we" had no say over it. Just like "we" have no say over the constant reduction of SS benefits. The WORKING youth today will pay into it all their lives paying in about as much as federal income tax yet receive little to nothing at the end. Think what the required retirement age will be by then.I may have told you -- my first tour in Viet Nam, I had a monkey. I learned many things from that monkey. They don't talk abut the problems caused by women who get pregnant to get out of deployments.
Best way to defeat a country's armed forces is from the inside. Undermine morale, esprit, unit pride, create all sorts of privileged groups, drive out good people...Comment

The Army has a new casualty category:
There was KIA -- Killed in Action
And WIA -- Wounded in Action
And MIA -- Missing in Action
They've added KUIA -- Knocked Up in ActionComment

Heard a story long ago. Don't know if it actually happened but it sounds real.
A soldier in Vietnam facing battle everyday had enough. He shot himself in the foot hopefully to get out of fighting and possibly get discharged to go home. The Army took care of his wounds then court-martialed him for destroying "government property".
Now, why doesn't the same apply to women? Pregnancy isn't an illness, it is self inflicted. If a woman is taken out of action due to pregnancy because of rape then a DNA test should reveal the man who is responsible of destroying government property.
Additional time/trouble/headaches of such should indicate men and women don't mix in the service.Comment

A self-inflicted wound is indeed a military crime, under Article 134:
In 1968, the courts established that the accused’s mental state and purpose for inflicting self-harm were irrelevant in Article 134 prosecutions. As long as the self-injury affected the good order and discipline, the accused could be prosecuted, whether the purpose was wrongful or not.Comment

I recall our company commander in BCT in 1967 reading us the regs on malingering. The Clinton Administration refused to defend and later secured repeal of legislation mandating the discharge of those who test HIV-positive, now they get to stay in, since DoD regs make that category non-deployable someone else goes in their place.Comment

Worked with a guy who went in with "Operation Junction City (?)". Caught a round in his foot as he floated down. Said the doctor derailed his court martial because he had taken careful notes explaining the bullet came up through the sole of his boot.
Pregnant=self inflicted wound.Comment
