    Newsom Makes His Decision

The new Senator from California will be Laphonsa Butler. She is a black, Lesbian woman who has never held political office, Runs Emily's List, a pro abortion activist group, and is a resident of Maryland. Old Gavin checked a whole bunch of boxes with that one !!! Newsome did say she would have to register to vote in California before taking office but didn't say she'd have to move. I suppose she'll have some sort of mail drop.

isn't Nancy originally from MD, and I would bet she is part of that extended family, somehow, (if not related, then in on the crime side)

she will probably rent an Apt, and have a Staff Office, in Cali, and continue to live in MD

Yup, she was born in Baltimore, the daughter of Tom D'Alesandro, Baltimore Mayor and later a congressman, a major player in MD Dem politics, more than his official titles would show.

She will run for re-election having tasted power and liked it,
This will piss off Shifty and Davis who considers the position
hers by right. Newsom has put a cat among the Pigeons.

Feinstine was elected by the people, so how can someone 'appoint' someone to finish her term? Why not a special election?

Replacement senators by law are appointed by the governor. Representatives are replaced by special election.

Remember, under the original Constitutional provisions, Senators were selected by the state legislature, not elected by the people.

                Doesn't that vary by state?

Politicians should be chosen from the phone book.

Yes, but only four states fill a senatorial seat by special election, in the other 46 the governor appoints the replacement.

No. Appointment of Senators is Federal Law. The House of Representatives voted down a measure to allow appointment of Representatives.

It was William F. Buckley wyho said "I'd rather be governed by the first 2,000 names in the Boston Telephone Directory than by the combined faculties of Harvard and Yale."
Given the importance of identity politics to the Left she was a perfect checklist candidate.

The only way it would have been better for Newsome - if her last name was Gonzalez
