    Recruiting school resource/safety officers

Arizona needs 130 more officers. Some will be armed. They might make $100/hr. Uhmm, it wasn't like that when I was a kid. But I did just watch a vid about a 270lb high school kid who beat the heck out of a teacher because she asked him to turn off a device. -l don't know if you've been keeping score, but they just kicked our ass-

School resource officer is a tough one.

First of all most police departments don't like to take productive officers off the street so school resource officers are often just the dregs. It shows in the number of cases where school resource officers, and sometimes local cops have not "run to the sound of the guns" even though current training teaches that no armed intruder in a school is to be treated as a barricaded suspect.

Added to that, the school resource officer has to be a person who can get the confidence of the kids while still being a cop. That added to the responsibility to deal very aggressively with armed suspects requires a pretty unique skill set.

Even with all that I'd be the first to say that a cop with a gun on campus is always better than no cop with a gun on campus.

Texas just required every school to have a School Resource Officer. Where they're going to get them is anybodies guess.

Shooter's with intentions are apt to not enter a school building seeing a police vehicle parked in the front.

For unruly kids, especially those too big to handle, a cattle prod would go a long way.
