I gave our grand-niece Olivia (Livers to those who know and love her) my old service revolver. It's a S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece. I carried it for many years until my agency mandated .357 Magnums. I then gave it to a dear friend in the Customs Service and she used it until her agency mandated auto pistols. A couple of years ago she insisted I take it back since none of her kids had any interest. I hate taking back something I've given away and try to find it another home, well...I did.
Livers is a Jew, her dad is Jewish and her mom converted when they got married. Wonderful folks except for being center left liberals. They were really glad she got the pistol. When we were over for Thanksgiving I handed it off and gave her a lesson on operation and how to effectively shoot it. I'll go back after the holidays and we'll do some actual shooting.
Anti Semitism is so rampant now that the situation has turned into an extended Kristal Nacht. Jews are frightened and they should be. These people don't have a Jewish sounding last name but you can't be too careful. The dad was actually a bit disappointed that he wasn't getting the gun. If Livers gets a CHL he will get it. I'm going to replace my model 640 which is 25 years old and has thousands of rounds through it this year and the old one will become "expendable" which means it will be sold or given away. If Livers gets a CHL she'll get the 640 and her dad will get the Model 15.
There is a bigger point to this though. Jews in this country, overwhelmingly liberal have begun to arm themselves. Frankly, the reaction of Liver's dad was only mildly surprising under the circumstance. He told me he's seen this coming for a long time. Unlike most of his folks he actually saw the way things are going quite a while back. I listen to Jews on the media who cannot believe the secular left, who they looked on as their philosophical fellow travelers have turned against them actually the bigotry against Jews was there all the time. Its just exploded to the surface recently.
In the mid '60s an organization called "The Deacons for Defense and Justice" was formed in Bogalusa, Louisiana. The civil rights movement sparked violence and intimidation, including armed violence against black communities in the South. The Deacons were formed to counter this. They weren't the only such militia organization but they were probably the best organized. Most were WWII vets. Among the qualifications to join were good character, the physical capability to fight, and the position of a good quality appropriate firearm. U.S. surplus military firearms were preferred and I understand the M1 rifle was the preferred U.S. military firearm. One night a large group of white thugs drove through a black neighborhood in Bogalusa honking horns, shouting insults and shooting out windows. Suddenly they were met with a hail of return fire and never came back.
Psychologically I would be surprised if American Jews were capable of forming an organization like "The Deacons for Defense and Justice" which is too bad for them. They also don't live in as compact communities, but I'm glad Olivia has the gun, I hope she gets the carry permit and if she does get a license to pack her dad will get the model 15.
