At this point neither side is caving and even if things are settled it will start all over again in a few months when we need to pass the next budget.

Wifey's niece said she was told they're GTG until the 16th. No word what happens then. SW -
I donno. I read where SNAP (food stamps) $ was cut off Oct 16th. Beyond that the outfit will run but w/o money. Perhaps Nov 16th is when they will have to shut it down if the SD has not ended by then.
Speculation is when people don't receive free food assistance they will resort to stealing and possible robbery. Many recipients, as you know, do not and will not work.Comment

Looks like enough dems have jumped ship and will vote with repubs to resolve the matter. Mucho gnashing of teeth and mean faces by hard line dems like Shumer about that. The Calif gov is also livid with rage that his darling illegals will be getting much less federal aid. But our military needs paid, and some people genuinely need food stamps - or whatever they're called now.
Bottom line: politics is a sordid business. SWComment

one of our worthless senators jumped ship,
means nothing, he is not up for reelection this next year, he still has 4 yrs or so before he has to worry about voters and most don't have memories that long,

It's over, and the dems are NOT happy. Shumer's power play to get health care money for illegals blew up in his face. The dem who seems most upset is the Calif gov, Newsom. He also had grand plans to give illegals a lot of free stuff so they'd vote for him or whoever he recommended. Too bad - so sad, dems!
