    Going to Vietnam 1966

Anybody else get to go via troop ship? My entire company (130 men) went by troop ship. We flew from Ft. Bragg to Tacoma, Washington in an old Constellation airplane. There we boarded the troop ship (John Polk) for a three week ocean voyage. Stopped at Okinawa then to 'Nam.

I went to So Korea on the USNS Gen Edwin D Patrick. We left Oakland army terminal Nov 18, 1965.
Went to Nam on an airplane. They needed us in a hurry. Left Oakland again this time on Thanksgiving Day 1967.

I got to fly to RVN in 1967 via Okinawa. Washed our own laundry in an issued galvanized bucket of water from the buffalo and air dried. Youse young guns would appreciate not having a commercial laundry available. Whatta Hobby!
