    Stevens 416

Over last weekend I glommed a Stevens 416T. Only have the auction pics right now...better when it arrives.

It apparently doesn't come with sights, but I have a set, so that isn't a problem.

looks like someone adabted it to take Redfield sights instead of the Savage sights. Front should be a S marked 17A Lyman and the back, a
    Savage sight.

I've got a Stevens 106 rear sight and a Stevens "tombstone" style front sight, which I believe is correct for the 416. Hoping they didn't booger the rifle setting it up for the Redfield sights.

you are correct on the front sight. The 17a S marked on that I have, is off a Sears Ranger version of the 416. It might have been changed out
before my friend bought it, or is original to the Sears version. I also have the Stevens rear sight to go with it. I haven't found a military version of the 416
but then again, I haven't been looking for one lately.

I have a "Ranger" version of this rifle also. Mine has a "Patridge" style front post sight. I'm not sure whether this is original or not, but it works remarkably well.

My Sears Ranger (Stevens M416) had a front post. I am of the opinion that you were required to shoot a post in NRA/DCM matches. I don't know when that changed, but if you have old front sight insert sets, you always had a couple of post sights as part of the sets.

These rifles had good barrels. Winchester M52's and Remington M37's were the premimum small bore rifles, Stevens M416 mid priced competition rifles.

Here are some additional pics of my new 416...

I have a correct set of Stevens sights for it, but mounted a Redfield International rear and Olympic front and see how it shoots. It came set up for the Redfield sights. Haven't gotten to the range with it yet.

The wood and metal are in very good condition.
