    I hope Herschel weighs in on this, but . . . .

I believe the “long rifle cart’ge only” inscription appears ONLY on the guns of “issue” configuration, as ORIGINALLY made.

The “sales” version does NOT have it.

    Am I correct Herschel?

Both rifles are marked the same. Thanks artd for the 10/26 data.

I agree with Kragrifle. The sales variation also has the marking.

          That’s interesting, Herschel, as my 1926-dated M1 “sales” version has NO caliber marking . . . .

          Musta’ slipped thru??

What is the barrel date on your rifle? Again, it appears that the marking did not appear until 10-26.

I believe it is 8-26 . . .I’ll have to dig it out of the safe to be sure.

              Just checked . . . .it is 8-26,. . . . so I guess I learned something “new” again! Thanx.

My wife says that there are probably no more then 10 people in the country that are interested in the obscure data I spend by time digging for. Now I can tell her there are 11!

Yeah, Art . . .I hear much the same!

Early on in my collecting, more than once, I would catch the Missus rolling her eyes while they would glaze over when I explained some minor difference in these antiques.

I’ve now given up with her . . .she’s just NOT interested.

mine does the same, and doesn't really ask what I am looking at much anymore,

she did perk up one day when I showed her a long lee with the VR on it, so much so that when I told her the VR was for Queen Victoria she claimed it

For whatever reason, British royalty ready seems to interest the missus.
