Back in the early '70's I remember seeing an advertizement I think in the American Rifleman magazine for a Remington 700BDL chambered (not converted) for the 22LR. They were pricey @ $500 in 1970 or so but it was a Remington 700 and it was a BDL. As the ad stated, what rifle should you invest more into rather than the one you will shoot most often which for most of us is a 22LR. I can't find anything on these rifles anymore. Many will say they were never produced but I remember seeing them advertized. Anyone else remember them or have one?

What you are thinking of is the 40XB and 40XR sporters. They are very pricey now days. This one just sold on Gunbroker:

As you see, it's not a cheep date. They made a single shot and a repeater. They also made a target rifle.
The target rifles are easier to find. I have two 40XB targets and I have two earlier version target rifles based on the 722 Remington actiion
