1960 Browning SA22 Ver 1 NIB as a gift?

I have a question regarding the SA 22 v1 Browning rifle. A neighbor asked me for help going over her relatives firearms to determine their values for the family. One was a 1960 (SN verified) Browning Semi-Auto .22lr still in it's original Lt Brown cardboard box with inserts. I just broke it down and it has never been messed with or fired since it was shipped. I mentioned I had one and it was going to our grandson. I offered to purchase hers once the value was determined if she was interested.
Now, several weeks later, her husband brought more FA's for me to check along with the Browning. She wants me to have it as a gift.
I need to figure out, from someone with more Browning experience, about what this is worth. I can't just accept it knowing it is a valuable rifle.
Any help would be appreciated.

wheel sight guns bring a slight premium,

this one sold recently, but not an exact comp, since this one is the FN marked version for sales outside the US,
not sure the US version you have will bring $3500,

other have been about 1/3rd or less that price, but while they are wheel sight guns, they are used, in good to VG shape,

my experience locally (FFL I am) , we have sold them w/o box in the 800$+ range, depending on condition etc

iffin I was selling on, I would likely start as an auction at 1500$ and see what it does,

Thanks Lyman. In examining this rifle I would think the owner probably fired one tube of ammo and put it away. The bluing on the parts show a very slight rubbing in just a few areas and the bolt face is still all blued with no finish removed. There is no way I can accept this as a gift considering the estimated value. They know nothing about FA's but are showing some interest in learning to use a pistol and a pump shotgun. Maybe, considering the time I'll use instructing them (ret. LEO instructor), it might cover a little of the value. We'll see when we get together later this week. Now I have an 1892 Marlin and a Sphinx AT2000 PS to go over for them. They appear to be nice FA's too. Stay safe and thanks again.

There are several variations of the Marlin 1892. One of the 32 cal variations has firing pin for both centerfire and rimfire. Pics will help ID things. SW

I've already returned the FA's to the owner with information on each so she knows what she has. She was shocked when I told her about some of them and their estimated values for insurance. I'm not sure what happens to them now but I did tell her I would buy the Browning if she was interested in selling it. We shall see. Thanks all for your input. Stay safe out there.

Asking prices for old Marlins has surged recently. I would pay far more attention to sold prices, but there are a ton of variables.

I would cautiously say both. Hard to find decent original 39-A's for south of 700 at local shows, and gunbroker ain't a whole lot better.
On a sort of related note, the gun library at Cabela's has really hit the skids since the bass-pro take over. It seems they have quit dealing in used guns?
I'm keeping my marlins for the fore-seeable future. The 39-A I have is actually pretty good on the small game I put it up to. It especially likes the CCI subsonic HP's.

not as up to snuff on Marlins as I should be,

2 I picked up, I kept one with issues hear at my shop, and dropped the other off at the store to go in the video Tuesday,
both are 32 center fire, only one had markings to tell me what model
the one that I kept here I will toss on gunbroker, since it has issues,

did also get a Marlin 39M Article II (2A commemorative) that I left at the store, in very good shape,


beater 39's bring decent money here in the states, and primo condition obviously a lot more

Pictures are awfully tiny. S.I.R. used to sell them by the bushel basket for cheap for the original Belgian built take down guns. They had a reputation for jamming when I was a whole lot younger. Pre Cz 452 trainers were sold the same way. I stuck with my Mossberg .22's for a lot of years.

I have 2 Wheel sight guns,

one runs flawlessly, the other runs best if you put a drop of oil on in the receiver where the bullets are feed from the mag tube,


I'll be honest, both are had for me to get used to, since they are so light and 'dainty' compared to the target guns I normally shoot (as in 513/75/37/52 etc)
